Programs
Daycare Program (2 1/2 - 5 year olds)
Starlight Learning Centre builds on a child’s natural desire to learn new things and become self-reliant. Getting along with other children, sharing, taking turns, and working in a group are a natural part of playing and learning. We are aware of the developmental stages that go along with these early years and we provide an exciting, challenging space to foster a child’s mind and skills. Our Daycare program is set up to prepare all the children to be ready for kindergarten and prepare them for the social/emotional transition into a structured classroom. Each child will have the ability to have the proper hand positioning for holding scissors and pencils, know their early childhood concepts (example: abc’s, counting, colors, opposites, shapes, etc.), and early reading skills from Family Fun Phonics and/or A-Z Actions.
Children will explore our learning centers which foster socialization skills, self-esteem, self-help, and cognitive skills. The following are provided for your child’s exploration in our programs:
Puzzles, Manipulatives, Books, Rice / Water Table, Dramatic Play Centre, Snacks and Meals, Calender / Weather, Active Outdoor / Indoor Play, Music, Stories, Discovery Centre (Science), Show and Tell, Listening Centre, Computer Skills, Art Projects / Materials, and Blocks.
School Aged Program (5 - 12 year olds)
First of all, we believe strongly in the philosophy of “learn through play” and we employ its principle into our day-to-day activities. We believe in respect, dignity and the encouragement of self-reliance in order to enhance positive self-image in our children. They will learn about different cultures and traditions from all over the world through stories, music, art and group games. Ample time will be provided for free-play thus enabling the children to utilize social, positive communication, and life skills. Our main objective: Prepare the children for the "real world" with skills and self esteem building blocks to assist in culturing them into strong, successful young adults.
While different learning centers may address different developmental needs in the children, it also facilitates their complete social, physical, emotional, and cognitive development. Leadership skills and Character building is a priority when planning programming and purchasing of equipment. Field trips will be arranged so that the children may attend workshops to learn and explore various subject matters with “hands-on” activities.
Our staff members meet a child's basic needs before further growth and development can occur: nourishment, play, positive self concept, social contact, guidance, communication, secure and stimulating environment and knowledge. Our programs are designed with ages, interests, children's inputs, and developmental abilities in mind. We have two sub programs in our centre: Junior (5 - 9 years) and Intermediate (8 - 12 years). Each sub program allows for the children to have activities that meet their cognitive, language, social, and physical abilities based on their ages. Each area must be considered in the development of a whole or unified person.
