Welcome!

“Where individual, creative minds shine!”

WELCOME TO OUR CENTRE!

Thank-you for choosing to visit Starlight Learning Centre’s website. We are really excited to welcome all families and children to learn who we are and what our programs are all about. We are a family oriented centre that strives on open communication and supporting each of our families as best we can.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2012!

We would like to thank all our families for making 2011 a wonderful, fun-filled year! We wish all families a wonderful beginning to 2012 and hope that it brings joy and love to those around you.

REMINDER: CLOSURE POLICY DUE TO UNFORSEEN EVENTS/WEATHER

We would like to remind all our families that we may have to close due to inclement weather, illness, etc. Please keep posted on our website for updates that will be available by 6:30am on the morning that a closure may occur unless the closure occurs during the work day. Also, please check news 1130 to see if we have been added to their school closure list, also by 6:30am.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind the families of our facility about facility closings and/or delayed openings due to unforeseen circumstances. Our staff understands that our decision to open or close in bad weather, illness, etc. has a major effect on families. We also understand that our families and children are better served financially, socially, and conveniently by being at the centre. However, our top priority is the safety of all who attend our facility.

HOW DO WE MAKE OUR DECISIONS?

Please understand that we make the decision to open or close the facility in bad weather based on a careful analysis of several factors. Some of these factors include:

  • Information on road conditions from transportation officials and from the police. We must give careful consideration to the most dangerous roads in the area. Even if your street looks clear, travel elsewhere in the area may be dangerous. In addition, we must consider that our staff are coming from Abbotsford and Metro Vancouver.
  • Amount of snow and ice accumulated.
  • Whether precipitation is continuing.
  • Building conditions (such as whether we have electricity and heat).
  • Parking lot conditions. We have private contractors that are responsible for clearing our parking lot. Their schedules and availability must also be considered. This is a liability issue.
  • Temperature and wind chill. Please remember that some of our families walk to the facility and some must wait outside for the bus.
  • Weather predictions. We prefer to not make our decision based on weather predictions, which are not always accurate. However, sometimes this is unavoidable, especially when the weather may have already started to turn.
  • What school districts are doing that we service to. We also share information with school districts and check whether they are opening or closing.
  • Staff accessibility. Are qualified staff able to get to the facility both accessible and safely. Without qualified staff, we are unable to open under Licensing Regulations.
